Transgender Voice Therapy

Female to Male

Are you looking to sound more masculine? Does your voice cause you discomfort? You may be in need of voice therapy. Transgender men are often told that they do not need voice therapy due to hormone replacement. But whether you’ve gone through hormone replacement therapy or not, voice therapy is very effective in helping you find and build your voice.

Male to Female

Do you want to sound more feminine? Are you self-conscious about they way you sound? Are you straining your voice to get a higher pitch? Hormone replacement therapy for transgender women doesn’t alter the voice in the same way that it does for transgender men. Voice feminization therapy can greatly improve your quality of life by helping you to discover the voice within and build your communication confidence.

Individuals who are transgender may elect to have voice and communication therapy to help them use their voice in a safe way.

As a speech language pathologist and vocal coach, I provide voice and communication training and look at a variety of aspects of communication, including vocal pitch, intonation and resonance, and nonverbal communication.

Assessment will involve the collection of a case history and medical history, and assessment of voice and language. It is important for us to eliminate any vocal abusive behaviors resulting from changes in pitch and volume, which can lead to vocal nodules or other voice problems.

In therapy we will focus on the following:

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by the voice. I was trained as a classical soprano over 20 years ago and then began performing in concert and on the musical theater stage. Since that time, I have enjoyed teaching many people how to sing and how to sing better! At a certain point, I realized that I wanted to know MORE about the voice and speech mechanism, and I wanted to reach more people. I went back to school and have been working as a speech pathologist and voice coach for the past 10 years. It is very rewarding to be able to combine and focus all of my training to help others heal, speak, breathe, sing and communicate more freely. I have diverse training in a many voice and speech techniques and am also a certified Buteyko Breathing practitioner.

Every person is unique and has different needs depending upon diagnosis, history, and goals. During my sessions, I listen to my clients and rely on my experience, training, science and intuition to help determine what techniques, exercises and tools are going to be the most effective.

I would love to be able to help you achieve your personal and professional goals. Please check out my site, and let me know if I can help you along your journey.
